After all, these were the sounds that kept many of us cruisin' to our favorite radio stations as we headed to a local drive-in cafe after high school or to the beach on weekends. Can you recall the endless line of customized Fords, Chevys and Plymouths as we cruised along Van Nuys Blvd in Van Nuys, Woodward Ave. in Detroit, Highway 1 in Fort Lauderdale or Colorado Boulevard in Glendale, Calif.    Great radio stations like WABC in New York City, KYA in San Francisco, WLS in Chicago, KXOK in St. Louis, KDWB in St.Paul kept us tuned in to hear our favorite DJs playing unforgettable music.  In Los Angeles, KMPC710, with it's airwatch helicopters and a ground fleet of big block Chevy station wagons, kept motorists informed of the southland's current traffic and news events from 1958 to the mid-80s.

So check out the calendar of events on these pages, dust off your classic and head out to a show near you this season. You'll see
our big white 1961 Ford van-with the KMPC letters-playing some of the Best Sounds in Town with more great music hits from the past.
*No longer a commercial broadcast operation - KMPC,  KSFO and KVI  were owned and operated by Gene Autrey's Golden West Broadcasters from 1959 to 1994 .  The station's call letters and it's original dial location have long since faded into radio history. This site is dedicated to the memory of Gene Autrey and his top rated GWB radio markets, and to the many dedicated employees in News, Sports, Talent and Engineers - jS
